| The Fun Begins!!! |
We have decided to Blog about our upcoming trip to let other 30 somethings find out what its like to jack everything in and travel for a year, first a little background:
The Squires have been together for 11 years (married for last 7 or so), Gemma (G) worked for a large Adventure Holiday company and Dave (D) ran a small LEA outdoor centre. We have 2 cats (Mazey and Hobbs) and live in Herefordshire.
The Decision!
It was back in July 2012, we had just sold a house and managed to get back all of our deposit so we had some spare cash lying around. I (D) was all for spending the cash on a fast car or a big plasma screen and generally planning to live very comfortably plodding away at my job at the outdoor centre. Gemma was coasting along in her job looking for a new challenge.
One day we went for a walk along the river and started discussing work and life etc, when Gemma asked "wouldn't it be good to take a year off work and go travel the world?" Normally my response is "yes wouldn't it, but what about this or that", today however I surprised myself (and Gemma) by answering "lets do it!".
We took a long weekend to think it over and check our financial status, we then made plans to hand our notices in at work the next week.
